I love Christmas season, not only because of Christmas but it means that I get to start planning my New Year's Resolutions! I love having a fresh new start and a fresh new set of goals to accomplish each and every year. I encourage you to set some reasonable goals this year and try to accomplish them.
Why should I set goals?
Try this analogy: Have you ever baked or cooked something? Did you use a recipe? Or did you just put a little of this and maybe a tad of that in there? Well most of the time if you followed a recipe it turned out quite good, right? Okay, now imagine that you didn't follow any sort of recipe--disaster right? Now pretend you are that are what needs to be cooked or baked. If you don't have a game plan (recipe) more than likely it's going to end up in the trash can. So just like you need a recipe to cook good brownies, you a step by step to develop the best you. And that step by step is setting goals. Setting meaningful goals can help you became the best YOU! + Help you accomplish your dreams and talents! |
What kind of goals should I set?
When it doubt. pray it out! Ask Heavenly Father to help you to know which goals to set. Set goals you know you can accomplish if you work hard towards them. I always like to choose 1-2 goals in each of these areas: health, money, education, spirituality, and, mind. And then a couple that will help me accomplish my dreams. It is amazing what you can can accomplish when you set reasonable and desirable goals and have a mindset of "I can & I will." You can do anything you set your mind to.
Our progress isn't just for us...
I was reading the conference talk by D. Todd Christofferson titled, "Why the Church," in that talk there was a sentence that hit me--
It is important to recognize that God's ultimate purpose is our progress.
God's purpose is YOUR PROGRESS! Not your perfection. Progress. Steps in the right directions. That's why we need to set goals for ourselves. You can read quotes and talks all day long about why we need to set goals. (just Google or Pinterest "goal quotes lds") Here is another quote that I love that gets you thinking right before you write some down. right...??
We can become the masters of our own destinies by practicing self-discipline & by setting worthy goals that will lead to higher ground so that we can become what our Heavenly Father wants us to become - M. Russell Ballard
